I had to take every figure down; the lower shelves weren't that bad. I had to get a stepstool for the upper shelves that nearly touch the ceiling. I've never seen so much dust on a shelf as I did on the upper ones. (Well, I wasn't surprised. I hadn't dusted those since I got them over a year ago.)
But, I did make the mistake of dusting the upper shelves last. They had the most dust, cat fur and overall grime of them all, so when I cleaned them off, it knocked all of the dust onto the lower shelves, which I had recently finished and put the figures back.
I just got the compressed air can... and a pair of goggles.
